Irina Metlitskaya

IMDB bio: Irina Metlitskaya was born on October 5, 1961 in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russian SFSR, USSR [now Russia] as Irina Yuryevna Metlitskaya. She was an actress, known for Makarov (1994), Chyornaya vual (1995) and Palach (1990). She was married to Sergey Gazarov. She died on July 3, 1997 in Russia.

For me personally she would always remain as one of the most brilliant Russian actresses who died too young from the Leukemia. She played young teacher/curator in Perestroika-age school for 16 years old, where her character faces a newcomer, the Soviet champion on Free callisthenics Tatiana Serebryakova. Tatiana starts challenging her straight away about breaking the school rules and defending her freedom to wear trousers instead of the routine uniform. Then there is love issue surfaces, when Tatiana discovers that the classmate she likes is in love with Metlitskaya. The entire movie is about how the ex-Soviet champion struggles to come to terms with an ordinary life after receiving sports injury that forces her to quit free callisthenics. She has an internal anger against everything, including her own mother, her school-mates, her forced leave and the entire situation. The movie is among my best favs. The name is Kukolka, translates as Little Doll.
